Optical devices like CD and DVD drives don't require the installation of drivers. Instead, they have what's called "firmware", which is built into the drive itself. Windows 98 should be able to install the drive using that.
Now if you have problems, you can always try to upgrade the firmware on the drive. It's much like the concept of upgrading your BIOS. Go to the manufacturer's site and look for any updates with instructions.
But before you go that route, let us know what issues you are having and whether or not the drive ever worked to begin with.

The drive never worked. It shows up in device manager but, when I put a disk in, and go to explorer, nothing shows up. If I try to go to the drive, it says "drive not available". It acts as though it's not there.
When you say "disk", are you talking about a DVD or CD? Have you tried removing the drive from Device Manager and rebooting?
There are a lot of possibilities as to what the problem might be. The best test would be to try it in another PC if possible.

goss;
as cdogg said - no drivers needed - the Hard Disk Controller takes control. This is Internal DVD burner ...yes?
did u fix the prob?
Are the jumpers correct?
Have it as Secondary master?
BIOS detects it on POST ok? (I would think so since it shows in Device manager).
Have the BIOS set to AUTO for that IDE device?
Is it listed under CDROM in Device Manager - or is it under ? or X or Unknown.
What type of disk are you testing with?
You Need atleast a DVD CODEC (or software player) to play DVD's, but it'll play CD's without a prob

Another point to check; your A07 may require a firmware upgrade to utilize "newer" DVD-R' media. Sometime during May, my month old A07 went to 100% failure. At first I suspected the media as I had just opened a new cakebox, a call to the media vendor clued me in. Seems DVD-R is still an "emerging technology" I.E.; is changing. I downloaded the flash update (version 1.13) from Pioneer and installed it, no more problem.
