Hello,

Well, this is not an XP-related issue but I couldn't find other forum to put this into and from my experience the guys here are very professional when it comes to technical advices so here goes...
I have two DVD drivers: One is a DVD burner and the other is a DVD reader. Often, when I burn data (using Nero) the DVD can be read afterwards only at the DVD burner, when I insert the DVD to the second DVD reader it doesn't recognize any CD inside it.Any idea why is that...?

Are the Recording speeds faster than the other DVD player can handle for reading? Have you tried a different brand of DVD media? Try setting a slower recording speed on the DVD burner.

Hello linney,

10X for the quick anaswer.
The Recording speed is not faster than the other DVD player can handle for reading. The problem is not consistent and it's not depend on the media since on the same type of media there is data I can read and data I cannot. Could it be because of Nero's certain configuration?

Well, if after digesting all those articles you are no wiser, then an e-mail to Nero Support may be useful to see if they have any clues or suggestions.

You could also search around to see if there are any firmware updates for either DVD.

There may even be a few clues in the Event Viewer, but if your as lucky as me it will only say something obvious like "a bad block etc.", nevertheless it may be worth a look.

Let's see what others can contribute, I wish you success in solving this.

thelordoftherings,
There is no setting in Nero that would cause the problem "sometimes".

Since you say it's not happening all the time, then I think you are just a victim of a dirty laser lens in the reader, or the drive is an underachiever. To try cleaning the lens, I recommend using a can of compressed air to blow it out (don't overdo it or it can cause damage).

Again, it is also recommended that you try a different brand of media. Trying only 2 brands, for example, isn't enough to rule the media out as the problem.

It also depends on if the MEDIA was burned as MultiSession or not finalized... then regular DVD ROMs may have problems reading them...

also I have found that certain burn speeds do have a negative effect on the reading of the data... ie. when you create a Bootable OS, in this case you should always BURN on the lowest speed available, that way it is assured that the pits (burn information) are deep enough...
