Hi,

My LG ND 3520A won't burn some new media I got. The media are Benq (16x max) and it says something about Picfect on them (I'm assuming it's some fancy name for better data and video retention). When I put a blank DVD inside, Nero only sees it up to 2.4x and if I try to burn it, it fails saying:

Nero Log said:
Could not perform start of Disc-at-once

Now, I've been looking to update my firmware for the past couple of days, but the relevant section of the LG website is down. I'm using Nero 6.6.0.8. Is switching to a newer version likely to work? Is updating the firmware (If I ever manage to) going to work? Or am I stuck with 10 useless blanks?

Thanks in advance.

1.) updating to a newer version will help, as Nero has burnstrategies implemented for newer media and burners...

2.) Firmware update is mostlikely a must, as it seems that your burner does not recognize the media correctly...

NEC Website:
Pls. be informed, that firmware updates for DvD Burner ND-Series will
not solve problems in conjunction with some burnersoftwares caused
by missing support on the softwareside by their manufacturers.
Firmwareupdates usually adds only new media information.

Firmware DL:

the above is from the NEC German WEBsite...

ddvlad,
I don't see an LG model that you listed. You can look for yourself here:

But as Ben posted above, the 3520 is a common NEC model. The U.S. firmware download site is:

Before applying the update, visit the site for instructions:

With prices of DVD media falling below $.50 a disc, I suggest you pick up a different brand such as Fujifilm, Verbatim, or Sony. If you still have problems after trying both suggestions mentioned here, then it could be a software issue. It's at this point when I'd worry about uninstalling/reinstalling/updating Nero.

Sorry my answer took so long, I have just finished banging my head against a hard, rough wall a thousand times. In other words, sorry I've misled you, it was a Nec. LG was my CD-RW drive. Sorry a million times.

Thank you both for the advice and the links; I've flashed the drive and it seems to work well now (detects speed correctly). I can't test it right now, but I am pretty sure it works properly.

I know my apologies don't account for your lost time, but I apologize one more time for not doing my homework accordingly.

@cdogg and ddvlad - I did not even notice that he (ddvlad) listed it as an LG, LOL... all I saw was ND 3520A, which I know is a NEC and went from there...

ddvlad - glad ya got it humming....
