I have a rather large query that returns contract vendors, effective dates, rates, etc. my problem is that i am using that as the basis for a report and only want the vendor listed one time. i've tried to use a group by (last, first etc ) and i still get dup entries OR if i use that last or first on the contract_Eff_Date field when i run my report it pops up a box asking for the contrcat eff date (like a parameter query).

can anyone help shed some light on what i may be doing wrong!!

thanks!
to have vendor show only one time!
On the report click on the vendor field and on properties under hide duplicates make sure it says yes.
not sure of reason for your other issue.

actually this was VERY stupid on my part...my, what a cup of coffee will do for you!!! basically, the query was working fine....it was when i pulled the report based on the query that it poped up the parameter box.

all i did was go to my report design and select those fields and change the control source to the LASTofeffdate...

hate it when it that happens.

Why don't you use the group by properties in your report.

In design view of your report
click the "View" menu the "Sorting and Grouping"
Then choose "vendor" and in the "Group Heading" box put "Yes"
It will add a Group Header to your report
Put the Vendors text box in there and then it will show the vendors name once and all of their records below it
You can force each new vendor to a new page by clicking on the Vendor Gray heading bar in your report.
In the "Force New page" pick "After Section"

OK
DougP
dposton@universal1.com

Ask me how Bar-codes can help you be more productive.
