For some reason on a windows 2000 machine I recently loaded, which by the way worked fine for the first two hours. Is now giving an error message "a duplicate name exists on the network" even though there is not a duplicate.
I have tried renaming and renewing the address.I do get an IP address but am not able to ping anything past my local address I cannot even ping the gateway which is the DHCP server also. I find this very odd because if I release my address and then renew it I DO get another address.Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated! Thanks...

I would assign static IP on the server
Also, if there are 2 network cards in your server, turn of WINS binding (Netbios bindings) on one of the two network cards... ---------------------------------------------------------------------
I have not failed, I've just found 10,000 ways that don't work
