Hi all,

Has anybody come across a situation where Windows 2000 Server allows a duplicate computer name to be joint into a domain?

I just ran into that situation. A computer was already part of our domain with name 12345, for example.

while this computer was connected to our network, or even if the computer is disconnected as far as I understand, Windows should not allow a duplicate computer name to be added to the domain. However, I added another computer with the same name. Later oviously, one of the computers could not log on to the network.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes I had this issue ones and it was be cause there were 2 nic's in the pc. One was a lan nic and the other a wireless. The pc was used once in a wireless network and i forgot to remove it when I put it on a lan.
