I have been getting an error ID:4319 everyday for the past three days every 30 minutes or so...this is what is says:

"A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network. The IP address of the machine that sent the message is in the data. Use nbtstat -n in a command window to see which name is in the Conflict state." (source is NetBT)

And a warning message always tags along with it that says this:

"The browser has received a server announcement indicating that the computer <computername> is a master browser, but this computer is not a master browser" (source is MrxSmb)

Any ideas of what this is and whats going on? (i do not have a duplicate name on the network nor a duplicate ip address). Thanks in advance

Does this server have two nics? If so, disable one, even if it's not plugged into the network.

It does have two nic cards: gigabit card and an onboard 100bt card...the built in one is disabled and the gigabit card is enabled already.

I might mention that another server(that strictly runs our insurance program) and one of our fileservers is giving me the first message like I stated above and then tags along a message that says It is unable to retrieve a list of browsers from the master, which is the computer in the first message in this post.

I got this message a few months back when one of our servers in the DMZ crashed, what i did was shutdown the server first, then remove any references in DNS that point to this server. Reboot the server, and that should solve your problem.

Many Thanks

Thanks for the advice. Can you explain a little more about "remove any references"? All I have in DNS is that servers address. Thanks in advance.

Do you use DHCP for this IP (is it in the range?)?

If so, try to exclude that IP addie and see what happens.

Well baiscally you go into DNS console and the do a search for the server that is having the problem, on the results - there should only be a few entries showm. remove these.

Many Thanks
