I am having a problem with my RAS server. I had to come to work last night, b/c no one was getting in. The event log said there was a dup. name. Wanting to go home, i just changed the name and decided I would fix it this morning. I have searched for the duplicate name, and there isnt one, but every time I try to change the name, it tells me there is already a computer with this name. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

nbtstat -n from the command line will tell you what name is in the "CONFLICT" state.

You have several options, one of which usually works..

You can turn off WINS (stop the service) for the duration of the reboot of the box that has the problem. WINS is probably the device saying that there is a PC on the network with that name.

You can take out the network cable from the back of the PC, until it's rebooted properly. (Without a network cable it can't find out about any duplicate names on the network)

Or you can look at this MS article, which involves a registry hack.
Hope one of them solves your problem - I've encountered it lots of times with my NT4 servers.
