DUN keeps popping up at startup & while running

I don't remember what I did before this started but my Win98 SE notebook keeps loading my DUN at startup (apparently multiple times the way it seems to flash) and after the computer is running it keeps popping up while I'm programming. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like something you've installed or got hold of is trying to update itself. Try ctrl-alt-del and see if anything is running there that you don't recognise or think shouldn't be. If this doesn't help trying running msconfig from 'run' off the start menu to see if there's something odd in there.

Download and run Ad-aware (free) and see if you have any spyware wanting to connect to call home.

Might also be a trojan wanting to connect. The Cleaner is a trojan specific scanner that's free to try:

If that's no help tell us what is checked in msconfig under the startup tab. start--run--type msconfig--ok.

No doubt this is spy-ware/adware or even could be a worm virus. Use some anti-spyware program to scan your HD. Also scan using an anti-virus prog.

Check win.ini file to see if any exe files may be getting loaded ... should be near the top of the file....
