greetings all-
Has anyone seen any problems with having a second NIC in an Exchange 5.5 box? The second one of course will not register with WINS. I am moving a few boxes from a public IP sceme to a private IP scheme with static SMTP translations and this way I could test the mappings without interuption then change the DNS transparently. Someone mentioned there were issues with having 2 NICs in there. Any experience with this?
thnx in advance.

Yes you can have 2 nic's in.
I have opted to use 1 and add the private range as a secondary ip without a gateway.
You need to be careful with your routing table.

Hope this helps

Ugh, problem is that the public and private networks are separate physical networks. thanks though.

In your case 2 nic's will work.
Install both and leave the default gateway for the internal network empty.

It will result that your routing table will send most of the traffic that needs to go out to the external nic.
All traffic that needs to stay inside will go to your second nic.

Have fun
