Hi there,
I am trying to set up a dual monitor and I think I need some help :)

I just bought a video card
ASUS V9400 GEFORCE4 MX 4000 Video Card AGP8X 128MB 64BIT DDR VGA DVI TV-OUT

I have another mother board built in VGA slot (but that doesn't seem to be working).

My question is, is it possible to have a dual monitor setup by connecting to the GVA and DVI ports on the same video card? (I tried this, but the most I can do it seems, it to show the clone of my monitor on the other)

If the above is not possible; is there anyway I can figure out whether my motherboard built in VGA slot is not working? Its ASROCK one, and I tried plugging in a monitor directly, but it doesn't seem to show anything.

Yes it's possible - make sure you install reasonably up-to-date drivers from nVidia first though. You can then configure how you want the dual monitors to work, either via the 'advanced' button in your display settings or via the nVidia icon that will appear in your system tray.

As for your motherboard's video output, firstly check that it's not disabled in the BIOS. Then make sure the correct drivers are installed, and finally make sure it's selected as an enabled output in your display settings. Not sure where you'd find that setting exactly as I've never had more than one display device installed.

Hi there,
I actually installed the driver that came with the Asus video card;
it does have a "scheme" setting where I can choose
default single display OR switch amongst display
but no dual monitor ....

My vidoe card is not nVidia, will nVidia's dirver still work with my card?

I guess i should check my BIOS settings too. Thank for the reply

Your ASUS video card uses the NVidia chip set. In your case the GEFORCE4 MX 4000.

Try obtaining not only the latest driver set but also several steps back. Since NVidia has lumped their drivers into a single package, there has been several reports of the latest not functioning correctly and that moving back 1,2 or more versions having solved the problem.

Also, make sure that your install the NVidia control snapin, as this is where running dual monitors is easily set.

Hope This Helps

Yep, what he said - it's an Asus card but it uses nVidia chips, so nVidia's drivers are the right ones for you.

On my machine I can access the dual-monitor set-up from two places: the icon in the system tray (click it and go to 'nView Display Settings') or the 'Display' item in Control Panel (Settings/Advanced, then the tab with the nVidia logo on it, then 'nView Display Settings' in the pop-out menu).
