Dear all,

I’ve been presented with an interesting problem by my server manager.

We want to dual home a server onto two different switches running back to the core network. as far as I’ve been told the server has 1 1Gb Nic and 1 10/100Gb Nic and using the onboard network drivers from Dell, we want switch between the 1GB to the 10/100Gb if the primary port/cable/switch fails the other Nic takes over.

As far as I can there shouldn't be many problems. But the big one I can think of is on recovery, the core router will see for a while, two MAC address for the same IP address each on two different layer 2 routes.

Does anyone have any experience of this setup or can suggest some pointers/web sites with more information.

Many thanks

I've seen this done before, however, it was setup using team nic's that were the same speed. This ensures that you have a nice huge pipe for your server (10/1000 x 2), and if one of the nics fails you still have the other nic.
