Hello to all....

I've got 2 Cisco 800 series DSL routers here at work.

They each have an outside IP Address.

What I need to do is have redundancy that if one fails, the other gets failed over to.

We were using an Aggregator made by Astrocom, but have had no luck with it....

Can anyone give me any ideas as to a solution to do this WITHOUT an aggregator?

Is there any other method that Cisco could use to do this?

Any help would be appreciated.....

HSRP and/or GLBP will detect local router failure and allow the other router to assume all routing control. On newer IOS'es, you can combine this technology with route tracking to determine if there is an upstream fault as well (this assumes you are running a routing protocol over the ADSL WAN).

GLBP is more advanced than HSRP as it allows you to load-balance over both connections thus you get a better return on investment. What I'm not sure about without checking CCO is whether this platform supports both HSRP and/or GLBP - you'll have to check if the commands below are supported in your version of IOS and whether an improved IOS/feature set introduces these features.

The following links explain how to configure HSRP and GLBP:
