Hi,

I was wondering how to go about a dual boot system in windows xp pro. I want to have windows 2000 Pro installed on a partition. Is there anything I need to know before doing it?

thx,
Joe

The normal course of events is that you create the dual boot with the earlier OS installed first, the latter OS installed next.

It becomes slightly tricky to post-install earlier OS versions, but Doug Knox has some terrific notes on how to do this:
It is tricky, so read the notes carefully. It can work, but it is decidedly preferred to do OLD then NEW OS versions.

These next articles would only apply if XP went in first followed by 2000 later. Although installing the Recovery Console is a good idea anyway.

I'd use a boot manager ( - free for personal use). I'd use its tools (dos & windows based) to hide the XP partition while I install 2k (on a primary partition). That way both o/s are independent. Then just unhide XP partition & run boot-us gui to set up boot menu.

(but the doug knox tip bcastner posted will work perfectly well if you just install 2k on partition with XP unhidden).
