Hi all,

I Have the following problem.

I Have in my computer 2 hard disks.

Drive C: (Windows XP Pro)
Drive D: (Windows 2000 pro)

These two were working just fine (Having on Startup a dual boot selection and all)... but i had to format drive c: and reInstall Windows XP pro. Now windows XP Cant Seem to find windows 2000 on drive D:!! Is there a hint in how to make XP see the windows 2000 in D: and make a working dual boot on startup?

i have tried to modify the boot.ini file with the following:

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsof Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

but this didnt work.
I Also replased NTDETECT and NTDLR files with the ones from the working Windows but this didnt work also.

Is this in the boot.ini i am writing correct?
Any Suggestions?

multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsof Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Ignore my last post - I meant to hit the Edit Post button, but missed. :-(

Assuming that Windows 2000 is the first partition of your second drive, then its boot.ini line should be:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

More info can be found in the the Multi() Syntax section of the following link:

thank you very much, the last one worked just fine
