Might try this, but depends on the model.

• Unplug Ethernet: Unplug the Ethernet cable from the phone.
• Press Microphone: Press and hold the microphone button while powering on the phone by plugging the Ethernet cable back in.
• Release Button: Release the microphone button after a few seconds.

Ok so there may be the answer to the situation! Is the phone using standard sip and is the password for the standard sip firmware different to the nec firmware?

I would use the NEC IP phone manager software.
