Does anyone know what the main difference is between the Exchange Server 2003 update and the Exchange Time Zone update?

I believe this is correct but please correct me if im wrong. The only purpose of the Exchange server update is to update the timing used in OWA. If no one uses OWA and we install the client updates, is the exchange server update necesarry?

Thanks

Can you be more specific as to which updates you're referring to? A link or something? That'll help me understand which ones you're talking about, and allow me to give you a better answer.

Here you go:

Scroll down to this section:

3. Apply the Exchange Server DST update. Exchange Server 2003 KB article 926666

4. The IT administrator has one of four alternatives (pros and cons of each alternative are described below):

Run the Exchange Time Zone Update tool against all affected users, servers, or both.

.....

If you have no one using OWA AND you have nothing else based on Collaboration Data Objects (CDO), then you could probably get away with not applying KB926666. Do you have any particular reason for avoiding it though?

I have no particular reasoning. I'm just educating myself on every little thing each update does.

I'm also trying to link this information to exchange 5.5.

As we're all aware, an exchange 5.5 update is not avail unless we fork out 4K.

So i'm trying to determine if we decide not to purchase the update or upgrade at this time, would it only affect owa users and users running CDO's? This is assuming that the client outlook updates are performed.

We have a blackberry server linked to the 5.5 exchange server. I'm also trying to determine if the blackberry server will be affected by this.

True, but the blackberry enterprise server uses CDO.

Wouldn't this cause issues still considering that its connected to a 5.5 exchange server and the $4000 exch update will not be applied.
