Hello

Cisco 1751 - IOS 12.2(15)ZJ2
slot 0: T1 WIC
slot 1: 2-port DID VIC
slot 2: 2-port FXO VIC

What i'm looking to do is replace that 2-port DID card with a 4-port, and keep the FXO the same. I'm concerned that our router may not have the DSP resources to support a full boat (all lines active).

here's a clip from our router. looks like we got two PVDM-256k-4 DSP's:

Packet Voice DSP Module Slot 0:
Hardware Revision : 3.2
Part Number : 73-6726-01
Board Revision : A0
Deviation Number : 0-0
Fab Version : 03
PCB Serial Number : ICP0601006F
RMA Test History : 00
RMA Number : 0-0-0-0
RMA History : 00
Processor type : 02
Number of DSP's : 1
DSP memory size(in kwords): 256
Type of DSP : TMS320C549
Product Number : PVDM-256K-4=
EEPROM format version 4
EEPROM contents (hex):

Packet Voice DSP Module Slot 1:

PCB Serial Number : ICP07271H3Q

So, with those two DSP's in there, could we support a full boat of calls on there? I tried using cisco's DSP Calc, but it doens't show a 4-port card. No help. here's a link the 4-port card that's got me thinkin about dsp's:

Thanks for any help guys!

I don't think that will work.

This says, "Each DSP supports two analog voice ports or one ISDN BRI port" and a PVDM-4 only has 1 DSP. I think you will need to upgrade one to a PVDM-8. Get it off of ebay. It will be cheaper.

It is what it is!!

you the man...

It is what it has always been and will continue to be. :-)

wait though..

I have two of the PVDM-256k-4. Two of em. that means, swapping the current 2-port DID with a 4-port DID, wouldn't make a differnce because it's still only ONE analog VIC. Make since.

2-port DID VIC - 1 analog VIC
4-port DID VIC - 1 analog VIC

....am i thinking crazy, or just reading that wrong....

You need to focus on the the statement

Each DSP supports two analog voice ports

6 ports = 3 DSP

PVDM-4=1 DSP

PVDM-8+PVDM-4=3DSP

It is what it is!!
