I have two Dig 8 base card with four port analogue trunk daughter cards in my IPO 500. Everything was smooth sailing for several months, a week ago one port went dead, so i moved that phone to another.....today....BOTH CARDS are dead?

Does anyone have any idea why they would just up and quit. The trunk ports on the cards are still lit up, but none of the ones phones are plugged into.

HELP!

Could be a shortcut or lighting ?
But i have seen cards that just suddenly where fried :)
Can you get them out and look for black burn electonics ?

Is there anything else i can try first? I downgraded the software and everything.....sigh

If the phones do not work then no
Check the cards
I have seen it myself with a brandnew card

I should have mentioned this before....this has happened before. The power is regulated by a battery backup device and should be monitoring any surging and what not...but this happened a few months back with a different IPO all together...we had it replaced and the cards were replaced too. Does the IPO have to be ground??? I mean i know it should be, but it had made no difference at any of my other communities. They do have Phios lines from verizon which are a different type of analouge trunks, but i cant see that being the issue as the trunk cards and ports are still working, this also makes me beleive that cards themselves are ok, since the analogue is working ok.

Are those cards load protected? If one of the phone wires was to short would it take both cards down.

The cards are not load protected !
If this happend before you have a problem in your cabling
I would put fuses on it to protect your ipoffice

I was used to a pbx where you could make a shortcircuit
It was easy to search for a port because the led on the port started to burn
Also when calling an analog port would go busy when it was loaded
The first and only time i tried that on an ipoffice the sparks where flying around me :)

How would I put fuses on it? You mean on the IPO itself?

No by using special equiptment for this
I only used the LSA+ system for this

From the Knowledge Base, All IP Office control units and external expansion modules must be connected to a functional ground. In some cases, such as ground start trunks, in addition to being a protective measure this is a functional requirement for the equipment to operate. In other cases it may be a locale regulatory requirement and or a necessary protective step, for example areas of high lightning risk.

Also,
Avaya 146C CO Line Protector
Supports up to 4 two-wire lines.

And if your phones are installed outside the main building,
For DS phones,
Avaya 146E DS2 IROB
Supports up to 4 connections.
or
For Analog
IP Office Barrier Box
Supports a single connection. Maximum of 16 on any expansion module.

Thanks guys, we found the burn mark on the card, we had a replacement so we put it in, we are checking the line that was having trouble last week for degredation. We will be using a different port for that phone, also when we took out the one card that had fried, the other starrted working....weird?
