I have a network of machines, that randomly drop the internet connection, internal servers still answer up.

The connection comes through a cable modem, to a Cisco 2600 router, then to an NT server, running DHCP,cisco 400 switches to the internal network.

Five of the machines, are 2-98's, 2-2000pro's, and XP respectively, all are running IE in various flavors. I don't lose all the machines just one at a time, or maybe two, just random times throughout the day. And have to reboot to get the internet back.

Switching them to dedicated ip has had no effect, although the XP box seems to be working the best (it still sleeps through email, and has to be told to send and recv periodically, i believe this unrelated, just office 2000 acting up).

When I lose the connection, i can still ping the cable host router, but can't get out from there.

Is the cable co dropping the connections? or is their some kind of stay alive command i'm missing. Is there a persistance setting of a sort at the ca. co. triggering because of non use for a time period? Are there more tests I can run?

Please help cuz the boss is getting pissed...

Thanks

John
