Dropped Frames???

When i capture footage from my DV camera using firewire IEEE 1394A card i get loads of dropped frames. I'm only new to premiere 6.5 and i'm not sure what the problem is... my hard drive is only. 40GB seagate ST340014A could that be the problem or my settings incorrect? what are the best capturing settings? or what else may be the problem?

any info would be greatly appreciated..
