Howdy folks, Is there any way to make the select statement a drop down box containing all choices for a particular field instead of being forced to type in the parameter? I noticed that it does this while working with the report in crystal (report, select expert) but it doesn't seem possible to do with a compiled report. When I run a complied report and click on "refresh data" I have to type in the parameters...am i stuck doing this?

Im using crystal 8.5 and a progress database connected via odbc

thanks for any help

Open the report in the Crystal designer. In the Field Explorer, highlight one of your parameters, and click the edit button (or right click on it and choose Edit). There's a 'Set Default Values' button there. Click that, and you can select the table/field containing the values you want to use, or you can type them in manually.

There's another technique that allows you to import a pick list. Here's a whitepaper that describes how to create one, and how to import it:
Creating a report to use as a parameter pick list for another report

Whatever route you choose, you'll have to recompile the report when you're through.

Thanks, it sounds like you are right on the money with that. Only question I have is that after going to

Insert -> Field Object (To open field explorer)

I can right click, edit formula fields ONLY. I can't seem to edit any database fields. Mabey this is due to my connection method?

Is there a way to duplicate the 'Set Default Values' in the formula editor? Im thinking mabey I could do a work around by sucking the field into a formula to accomplish the same thing.

Thanks, sorry still kinda new to Crystal Reporting

I was wondering if you figured you how to do a drop down pick list?? I am experiencing the same obstacle. I would like a pick list of all list companies in my directory. If I use the select expert tool, I get what I want slightly but the end user MUST select the company by typing it in, in which a lot of confusion can come about, from spelling errors.

From the Field Explorer, click on Parameters, not Formula and then follow vidru's instructions

That seems to work thanks but I still have one problem why would is not list my entire list?? I notice that is seems to stop at the field O when my list goes all the way to Z.

Thanks
