What to do when the requested driver file DOES match the name of the provided file, YET, Windows2k tells you "it was unable to locate a driver"?

Thanks a million,

JDL

Maybe the drive you found with the right name isnt the correct driver for windows 2000.

If you haven't already done it go to the manufacturer of your hardware and try and download a driver made for Windows 2000.

Thank you jump1ng.
Yeah, I went to their site ( but the problem is that they have so many options under very similar names, so it's hard to tell which is the right one.
I did choose a couple of course, but even the one I thought had the closest name to my MB, is giving me the mismatch restults I mentioned before.
According to Belarc Advisor, this is the model name of my mb: M756LMRT 1.0

And these are the links I found to be the most likely to match my mb:
M756+ (V5.3)
M756L+ (V5.3) - especially this one

Well, I tried both and the sound still not working.
I have tried both ways of installing it: using their Setup.exe, and using the Hardware Wizard.

Any ideas?

Well PCchips only manufacture the motherboards they don't make the chipset that they put on the motharboard.

It seems its SIS who has made the chipset that is on your board.

Now I'm not sure which of the drivers you are looking to get but have a look here for SIS drivers.

Ok, maybe the problem is on my side, I mean to say, on the way I am doing things. So I will provide some more info on that this time around:

Once I get the drivers I go to the Device Manager, and go to the thingies that show in yellow with a question mark. There are 2:
1. Multimedia Audio Controller, and
2. PCI Simple Communications controller

I then open the properties of the M.A.C. and click Reinstall Driver (in the General tab), and proceed to find the driver file I just downloaded.
Also, I have used the Setup program that comes with the drivers.

Same thing goes for #2 above.
What am I doing wrong? Isn't the MAC the right thingy to provide the Audio driver?

UPDATE:
You won't believe how the sound driver was found! I allowed the Hardware Wizard to look in the internet for an update, and it found it!

Unfortunately this didn't work for the PCI Simple Communications controller, so I would still appreciate it if someone can enlight me .

Well usually the way to install sound driver is to download the right package depending on soundcard etc and then run the setup executable most sound packages uses an installer to install themselves as they need to install codecs etc etc.

PCI Simple communications controller.... you don't happen to have a modem in this machine?

PCI Simple Communications controller should be included with your Modem driver set. Belarc should have identified the modem for you, or open up the machine and look at the labels on the modem card.

Then do a search for the driver set on the website of the modem manufacturer.

You wouldnt happen to have the driver for the sound I could download off of you. Im having the same driver issues. I dont have a Internet connection on that computer either.

I downloaded the driver unzipped it and this is what I got and I cant open it. 010914s.rom and its the 756lmrtv53_010914s download. Help this is driving me insane.
