Hi,

I had a problem with mapping a windows 2000 server drive unto a NT 4 server, the mapping somehow failed, lost the share name and password or timed out, causing the programs using the map to abort. Is this a common problem while mapping windows 2000 server drives on a NT 4 server machine?

Any suggestion would be appreciated :o)

-thanks,

I don't believe so.

There is no time-out setting that causes this. Some questions to get to the bottom of this:

Are you just conecting through the GUI "Map Network Drive" options or are you using "NET USE" commands? If using the GUI make sure the "reconnect at logon" is ticked, with Command shell check the "Net USE /persistent" to check if it is on or off.

Did either server reboot at any time?

Are there any events listed in the event viewers? (Check System, Application and Security on both servers.)

Are you using current service packs? (and has anything changed since they were applied?)

Can't think of anything else right now, suggest checking these then replying on this post. Cheers,
Sam

Thanks

Ozdog for responding, no one seems to respond sometimes :o) mebbe its a busy time of the year...

I had already checked all the above before posting the incident, neways, I am tending to believe someone may have accidentally removed the network cable and reconnected it back causing the map to break.

Thats all I can come up with right now....

Hi sibasis,

try "net config server /autodisconnect:-1"
and have a look at Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - Q138365.
