I have been using D.I.2002 with XP Pro for some time without any
problems.

Until today , when creating and/or restoring Image Files , I have
always used the D.I. floppies to initiate D.I. thus getting to the
"DOS" screen. I usually split these files into 650 Mbt sizes so that I
can put them onto CD's later.

Today I tried to create these image files by using the D.I. icon from
Windows instead .

My P.C. has 2 Hard Drives an 80 Ghz and a 120 Ghz.

The smaller drive is partitioned into C: E: F: & G . The larger drive
D: is unpartitioned.

My first attempt was to form an image file of the C: drive whose
destination was D:\Image Files\Test . For this I used the D.I. Wizard
and the file "XPC19OCT.pqi " was created in this Folder and had been
divided into 2 Image files .

However as the first of these was too large to burn to a CD I then
repeated this exercise but this time did not use the Wizard but began
by selecting CREATE IMAGE , SELECT DRIVE,SELECT DESTINATION and , when
OPTIONS selected , I chose to split the file into 650 Mhz sections. I
then initiated the formation of the image file.

This procedure stopped , however , after about 60% complete with the
error message :- "ERROR 1831 - Image File Not Found "

I repeated the above two operations several times and each time I used
the Wizard I get the image file created in two sections OK and each
time I used the CREATE IMAGE ....etc route I get the operation
stopping at the same point with error 1831.

Using the floppies to initiate D.I. produces no errors and the same
Image File is created and splits into about 5 650 Mhz sections without
problems.

Can anyone offer any explanations as to why these errors and anomalies happen when the "Windows" route is used but not when the "floppy" route is used?

B.N.

Hi, just to let you know I ran into the same problem. My guess it's a bug and it's probably fixed on the newer version.

I also have 120GB and 40 GB hd and same error message. But thanks to your idea I just use floppy and got the job done.
