Hey Everyone,

We are testing the disaster recovery option that comes with ArcServe 2000 and we are running into a problem. We are using the bootable CD w/ machine specific diskette option. The problem that is occurring is that we can only restore from the tape backup that is performed immediately before creating the machine specific diskette. Ideally, we would want to be able to create an initial machine specific diskette and restore from our most recent backup regardless of when the diskette is created. However, I am unsure if that is possible and, unfortunately, CA's documentation is less than adequate. No system changes occur between backups. If anybody has any experience with this software and may know how to work around the problem mentioned please give me your input. Your help will be appreciated immensely.

You are correct sir. I have done DR testing (except with floppies) and you are required to use the last tape used before you created the DR disk/floppies. What you should be able to do however, is update the machine specific disk which is where the tape information is kept.

If the server that you nuked to do the DR testing was the host Arcserve server, then you have a bit of a problem. This basically means that you have to update the DR disks periodically to reflect the "latest" backup tapes that can be used or else keep a disk/tape set in the closet which can get you up and running and then do more restores from there to get the latest data back on the server.
