I dowloaded SP3 directly from Microsoft and burned to a disc so I could install it on my system at home because I have a veeeery slow connection at home.

I installed it without any problems, but now 'Windows update' keeps insisting on downloading this upgrade to my home computer, which will take forever.

Now, how can I STOP or cancel this SP3 download to my computer?. I have tried Task Manager and it stops, but it restarts again when I reboot.

My connection is slow and it takes up all my Internet Time away.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Are you sure that XP SP3 has been installed correctly and successfully? What does the System Properties tell you? Also when you check SystemInfo from a Command Prompt (in XP Pro) does that confirm SP3 near the top of the resulting output and further down the KB936929 - Service Pack in the KB entries?

Belarc Advisor will help you also.

This should show you how to stop the download if you are positive you have it. When you stop it from being offered you may have to permanently hide the download too.

I do worry that your first SP3 attempt was not as successful as you imagine, but I am often wrong.

Yes, I'm almost sure that it is installed, this is what The System page shows:

I will try the other addreses and work on it.

Thanks for the information.

My System Properties doesn't say "sp3 final (RTM)" it just says -

System

Microsoft Windows XP
Professional

Version 2002

Service Pack 3

Whereas the Final RTM version is I believe identical to the actual release the rest of us have, from my beta testing of SP3, I vaguely remember that it was a slightly earlier release than what I have now, but I could be wrong about that. With that in mind, I still advice an uninstall of your SP3 and either let Windows Update install it (only a 60+MB download, or get the full version from Microsoft.
