Hi,

I need to download SP1 from the web at an internet cafe for use on a PC here at work. Need to use cafe as we don't have high speed and reliable web access at the office.

I thought I HAD downloaded it, but now realise it was only a link to the download (thought it was a bit quick!). Now it says the download will take many hours.

I am furious with Microsoft because its web site led me to believe it was the file, not just a link. I'm also surprised because I successfully downloaded Service Pack 3 from their web site. Also, do you know how I get to the web for Windows Me updates - it kept coming up with no results when I KNOW there are some, esp the System Restore Update - think the web site was "buggy" that day because there were so many areas I couldn't get to !

How do I retrieve the ACTUAL file for SP1/1a from Microsoft?

Regards,
Jay/UK

What version of Office are you using? I just surfed MS' website and found this link for Office 97 SP1:

Page:
Download Link:
Says it's 8,682KB. It's not an online-installer, it's the complete file :-)

I found this by using the form at --

Hi,

Sorry I didn't realise I hadn't mentioned !!

Office 2000, Help/About says it's on SR-1, but it isn't because I can't install SP2 or SP3. So I need to download and install on PC.

Ok, I've been winding about a maze of Google and Microsoft links for a bit now, think I may have found the critter ;-)

That page says to go to this URL:

From which you should download this file:

However, that's a 52MB file. There's another file listed below that, Data1.exe, that weighs in at 142MB. Not sure if that's a needed file or not (not mentioned in the Knowledge Base article). Since they'll both fit on a CD, and you're using someone else's bandwidth (assuming they don't mind), why not grab them both? ;-)

Hi,

Thanks very much.

I'll go to the cafe tonight and try to download those files.

Let you know how I get on.
