I have a strange question...

I have a cisco router that I inherited in my new position. It is a very important router, but nobody knows the password (due to the previous person leaving). I do not want to reset the router and risk losing the routing table, which I am told is very complicated. Is there a way to pull out the routing table so I can reset the router and start over? (I Am actually putting a Sonicwall TZ170 in its place).

The routing table is probably not what you need, but you do want to look at the configuration on the router. To do this you need to get onto the box, and go into enable mode. The password on the console port will obviously stop you doing this via a simple console connection.
If you know an IP address on the box, AND the telnet password AND the enable password, you can get in and display the config (show run or show start will do), but as the previous administrator has applied one password that you don't know he has probably protected telnet and enable, so you will probably not be able to do this either.

The best way forward is to go to

http://www.cisco.com

and do a search on 'password recovery'. You will see links to the procedure for every device Cisco make, and some information on the correct break key sequence to use.

Follow the process for your device to the letter, and it will not delete your configuration.
