Download managers

Anyone can please recommend me a good and fast download manager? i curremtly use Flashget, but i don't really think it makes any difference. It took me 50 mins to download an 8 MB file on a dial-up connection. If i'm not mistaken this is the time that it takes to download a file of such size even without a download manager. On top of that it slows down the connection considerably such that surfing on other sites simultaneously becomes a headache. So can u please suggest me a fast download manager? Thanks.

is my favourite - but I don't think you'll make much difference on download speed with any of them - your dial-up speed will be by far the biggest determining factor (ie, you need to invest in a faster connection if you want faster downloads).

i agree with wolluf. what matters most is the speed of your connection (albeit you have the best download manager there is).

My connection speed varies around 50.6 to 52 kbps.

That's what mine runs (50 - 52), and I have the same d/l slowdown when d/l and trying to access a graphic site at the same time. I've modified my system to allow more than 2 streams at once. I use a d/l manager set for 4 streams. The main thing is to watch your d/l speed. My modem may show 52kps, but the actual d/l speed from the source (controled by their server), often drops down from the normal 7.5 all the way dowm to 2!

You are lucky dropping only to 2. Here in Thailand the download speeds during peek hours are right down to 150 to 200, cycles that is at a 56 K connection. Now got ADSL and at peak periods still get 24k download speed. Regards

Can u please explain a bit more on streams? Does it help when u set ur system to allow more than 2 streams? My d/l speed also drops down 2 sometimes!
