I have developed a download problem sometime in the last month. I am trying to download Internet Explorer 6 from the Microsoft website or from TUCOWS. In either event I get the following message :-
"There is no viewer for the type of object you are trying to open
"Content Type application/octet-stream
"Possible location of viewer: Microsoft ActiveX Gallery"
I tried another download which opened a QuickTime window and at the end of the download I get this message :-
"Quicktime is missing software to perform this operation. Unfortunately, it is not available on the Quicktime server"
I am sure the two problems are related. I removed Quicktime from my computer; I reinstalled Windows 98 using the Dell-supplied CD; I tried to repair Internet Explorer 5.5; nothing I try works. Does anyone know what the problem might be. BTW I have another computer running Windows 95 and it works properly so I suspect that there is some .dll or plugin or MIME setting which is corrupted. Need help!
