Download Error Correction Failures

When online the error correction sent back to the server to ensure that the download is not corrupt seems to fail intermitently.

For example installers get errors such as "resolved size does not equal suspected size" and "CRC error." Graphics at times appear garbled and webpages are sometimes shown incorrectly presumarbly because a crucial ">" was mis-downloaded.

I have changed ISPs and the error still occurs and appears to be nto dependant on any single application. Redownloading smaller files often means that I get it correctly but the larger the file the more likely the problem of course.

This would appear to be a problem with the Winsock / TCP/IP stack. Has anyone heard if this problem and knows of a fix?

Thanks for any help,

Ben

Are you using any download accelerator programs? You might consider turning them off.

I keep a current link to a Winsock service repair tool in my FAQ: faq779-4625

But to be honest it does not sound to me like a Winsock problem.

Is it due to your settings in your router or network device that connects to the internet.

I am using dial-up to access the Internet and all those settings like DNS and protocol etc. are done automatically.

I have no download accelerators installed but do have a firewall (Norton) but it only blocks things completely or not at all and I cannot see how that could affect it.
