Hi, I recently installed Windows 2000 Pro and I've been having an odd problem. Every new file/folder/link I move to the desktop or that gets added to the desktop is doubled. For example, I installed Adobe Acrobat yesterday and it asked if I wanted an icon added to the desktop and I said yes: two icons are present. This happens to everything on the desktop except for the core folders Recycle Bin, My Computer, My Network Places, My Documents, and MSIE.

When I try to delete an icon it will be removed to the recycle bin but then its counterpart will not work when I double-click it.

Does anyone know what's going on or how to fix it?

Thanks,
Gene

In Win 2K professional there are 3 profile folders, one for "All Users" one for Administrator and one for the user who will be using this PC. When you load a program that creates its own icon to the desktop upon installation, it almost always goes into the "All Users" profile. This means no matter who logs into that machine and has a profile folder on that machine, will see the shortcut to that program on their desktop. Subsequently there is no need to add a shortcut on your own.
