Double-click doesn't open doc file.
It happened after somebody associated doc files with wordpad.
I re-associated docs with MS Word through windows explorer's View/Folder Options /File Types but now double-clicking just opens MS Word itself and you have to either drag your doc file from the windows explorer into Word or open it through File/Open menu.

Any suggestions?

This might help...

Under Folder Options>File Types, select the "DOC" extension, then select "Advanced." In the Edit File Type dialog, under "Actions", my machine shows the following 4 options: New, Open, Print, printto. When I select "Open" and then "Edit", I see the following in the "Editing action for type" dialog:

Action: &Open
Application used to perform action: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe" /n (Note: add the quotation marks as shown...not sure what the /n switch does, but I'd add it just in case).
"Use DDE" is checked
DDE Message: [REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen("%1")]
Application: WinWord
DDE Application Not Running is blank
Topic: System

Another option is to reinstall WinWord from the CD.

hope this helps...

Hi martiros,

Here are my settings for Word 2000 on a Windows 2K PC.

Under Windows Explorer I went to Tools, Folders, File Types.

From the File types box I selected "DOC", and then under "Details for DOC extension" I selected "Advanced".

The next window is "Edit File Type", and here I selected "Open" (Which was in bold because it is the default) and then Edit.

Now the window "Editing action for Type" appears and there I have:

Action:
Open

Application used to perform action:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE" /n
(this is the location of MY WINWORD - yours may be different, but don't forget the " /n")

Use DDE: ticked

DDE Message:
[REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen("%1")]

Application:
WinWord

DDE Application not Running:
(no entry here - blank)

Topic:
System

Now click OK to update and complete, and then try double-clicking on a doc file.

Good Luck!
