Apologies first for ginving scant information, but I am doing this third hand.

A client has Word installed and states that whenever a new document is created from a template, it is giving trhe new documant a .DAT extension. Changing the extensio back to .DOC makes the document readable in WORD, but they are wondering what may cause this.

I have had a look in Folder Options and File Types to try and replicate the problem, but to no avail.

I am not sure if they have tried Uninstall and then Reinstall, but has anyone else had this problem?

Thx in advance.

Have you got Nero installed?
Sounds weird but I had a similar issue and it was Nero trying to default the file and failing, it then sent it back as the wrong extension.

Regards, Phil.
