Dont have full screen playback

I am trying to export a 15 minute movie either to dv or videotape. When it is recorded to dv tape and then played back on the monitor, the bottom third is black, and it has pushed everything upwards so the upper 1/3 of the picture is no longer shown.

Please advise.

Am using a canon xl1.

Sounds like a scan converter problem.

is your video in a 4:3 format? Plez post more info about your project so people can help.
