Has anyone done a windows 2003 domain rename ?
Please let me know how it went, any caveats, etc.
I may have to use the rename tool to do a rename of the domain netbios name.

We are moving from NT4 domain to Windows 2003 AD. I am trying to decide whether to do inplace upgrade or clean and pristine. I'd prefer the inplace upgrade, but I will then have to change the netbios domain name after the upgrade.
Why ?
Because it uses our old company name, and we have promised for years that when we went to AD, we would then rename the domain. I wish we didn't make that promise !

thanks

A domain rename is not for the faint of heart and requires a lot of planning. It WILL break every service on the network that uses the domain.

The white paper on the domain rename process is ~60 pages.
