Hi

I allow users to access some web pages on my server via an I.P address. How do I go about pointing a domain name to my server?

Thanks

Gary

Is this a public site? If yes, do you host the site yourself or with an ISP?

Either you or your ISP, or your hosting company, have to create a host file in DNS. A+, MCP, CCNA

Hosts file is not a good idea.
You are speaking about domain name. So, I suppose that you have a DNS there. Use name resolution based on DNS.

Now, how to have - Create an alias (CNAME record) in the DNS domain where your server is. Like after this your clients can use:
How to have any http request to your domain be rdirected to your server?
- If your DNS server supports, you have to add a SRV record. For HTTP service to redirect to the "myserver" machine.
after this your clients can use: Gia Betiu

Hi

Thanks for your help, I am not a big network expert so the answers are a bit confusing. We have a server that has a static I.P. our clients access it via a 250.*.*.* address. Internally we can access it via 192.*.*.* or by ccsbserver which I think is setup in on the DNS. We have a domain name clickcheck.co.uk that is on a an ISP's server.

What I want to happen is that someone types in they are directed to our server.

Thanks

Gary

Ask your ISP to:
"add a CNAME record (alias) with the value of " for your server with the name "ccsbserver""

As about internal clients, same thing, ask your System Administrator that is administering the internal DNS for making such a similar change. Gia Betiu
