We Are in the process of migrating to AD from our NT 4 domain, we have a DNS server (Win2k) we use a zone called internal.comapanyname.co.uk for all the forward lookups, however when we upgrade our PDC to win2k and get asked if there is a DNS server do we just select this server? Also the worst thing about this DNS server zone name is that our company name is going to change so we will need to change this name, is that asy to do?

In answer to the first question: Yes, this is easy to do. If you already have a Win2k DNS server that is the primary for your internal.comapanyname.co.uk zone, then using that for Active Directory will work relatively simply.

In answer to your second question: NO. Once you've named an AD forest root domain, you can't change it. Half the fun is picking a suitable name that will never change.

I hear that in Windows 2003 you can change the root domain name, but you shouldn't do it if you don't have to (I think you're still limited to two name changes for the life of the AD forest).

So, your best bet is to pick a name, create a DNS zone for it, and then upgrade your PDC and use the DNS server and new zone for AD.

Hope that helps.

I have the same problem with browsing the network. There is a short delay and after that everything seems to work okay. In win xp when browsing through explorer the mouse blinks crazy like when browsing the contents of a network drive.

Any ideas let me know....

Thanks,

Dev
