My Wins server has aquired a 169.254.25.246 as the domain master browser, and it should be 192.168.1.3. The owner ip is correct...any ideas how to release this and get the 192.168.1.3 back?

169.254.25.246 This ip is from MS when you're nic isn't functioning correctly. Check your nic. I'm guessing if you try and ping anybody, it won't work. Good luck.

To be technically correct the IP address doesn't mean your NIC isn't working properly, it means that your computer cannot contact a DHCP server for whatever reason to get an IP. Your NIC could be fine but a problem may exist somewhere else.

And of course you can't ping anyone with that IP address unless other clients also couldn't contact the DHCP server and received an IP in that range.

This is true, however, hardware is usually the first thing that should be checked. The nic, the cable, then onto other things. Servers should never get ip addresses from dhcp, they should always have reserved addresses or static ip's, prefereably static. Good luck.
