Domain Controller Not Found During Active Directory Setup

I currently have two servers on my network running Win2k server. The server One is running active directory, DNS, is the domain controller and is my exchange2000 mail server. Server Two is a running DHCP and ISA Proxy/Firewall. Both are connected to the internal network and a XDSL connection. Server Two is currently a member of the domain, however I want to promote it to a Domain Controller.

Whenver I run DCPROMO server two recieves the message "Domain Controller Not Found" when I enter the domain I want to join it to. I have DNS running on server One and the domain resloves to the ip address of server One. What could possibley keep the second server from finding the domain controller?

i sort of have the same problem, i have 2 windows 2000 server machine's on my network, Server1 is running Active Directory, and Server2 i want to be a BDC running Cold Fusion for Development. when i installed server on #2 i wantt to join it as a part of the already made domain on Server1. but when i go to join Server2 as part of the Active Directory on Server1 as a BDC. it says it cant see Server1 or the Domain name is wrong. and i only have 1 other domain on the network. ive tried numerious amounts of things, and it is driving me nuts. if anyone has any suggestions please help me out. thanks

Well, all I had to do was set server two, the one I was adding as an active directory domain controller, to use server one as its primary DNS server. It appears the DNS server on my XDSL was resolving the domain name to the external address, not sure why that kept it from finding the domain but it did.

I am really a programmer plays being a network administrator during the day. Hell, its paying for this semester's tuition.

Same cure should work, point to the other server as the DNS server.You can also set a default gateway pointing to it as well.
