I have a win xp pro laptop i try to connect to my domain, I receive the message: A domain controller for the domain coa could not be contacted. Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly. I know the name is correct. I put an account for the computer on the W2K Server. I have a few xp machines on without a problem.
I disabled the windows xp fire wall, but it didn't help.
Any suggestions what else I can try?

Thanks

Cound be either a bad NIC or a bad cable.

Open a command prompt and type: ping 127.0.0.1 and press the enter key. What happens?

Also try adding the computer to a workgroup (real or not). Once you connect to a workgroup, reboot and then try adding the computer to the domain.

Whenever I get this problem from a Laptop, the first thing I assume (yes I know what happens when we ass|u|me)is that the laptop had been used on another network and had an IP address that worked on the outside network and not our internal Domain. Check to see if the laptop is set to use DHCP, and if so run an ipconfig /renew. If it is set to use a static IP, make sure it is a good one.
Either way, you will probably have to log in as a local admin.
