My users do not have access to Network neighborhood. They do not even need to browse the network for all places they need to map drives are done through their logon script. We have completely turned off the browser service on all workstations. By the way, all machines on the network are Windows NT workstation and server. My question is, what would be the effect of completely turning off browsing on the network. If I disable all BDC's and member server servers, and only leave the PDC's running the browser service? Any advice would be appreciated.

You may have the PDC and a couple of other servers with the service able, remember the some of the servers on your network have to advertise who the master browser is, a couple of servers on the network should be enough to accomplished this task.
