Hello XP experts!

I don't have XP yet. Can I use the NTFS file system when I upgrade to XP Home/PRO ?

Thanks, John

XP gets you to decide at installation time.
You don't need to Format or partition as it does all this.
You can also set up a dual boot at instal time if you want to keep the previous O/S.
Its quite neat

NTFS has advantages over FAT32 but beware of DOS utilities such as ghost. These only work on FAT32 at the file level.
Presumably this will change in the future.
Partitions are fileless thus ghost will copy them regardless of format to another partition but only to a FAT file.

New Norton Ghost does NTFS partitions as part of the support for XP...

I agree but you can only copy the complete partition to another.
THis means the partition will not be comprssed into a file.

This is because the DOS recovery side of ghost can't see an NTFS file.
If you set up a FAT32 partition to ghost into all is well

if you want to use an application to transfer/copy partitions, try Partition Magic & Drive Image Pro...there is even an explorer which lets you read the contents of the image files.

Jon. :)
