I read the posts for this error, as well as MSDNs potential causes
of this error. I have Enterprise Manager, QA, and the other tools installed, but I don't see the Services Manager to start up SQL Server. Why is it missing?
This is SQL Server 2000 running on WinXP Pro version 2002 SP2.

For the Services Manager, look under Start>Programs>Microsoft SQL Server.

Which version of SQL Server 2000 did you install? Standard and Enterprise can only be installed on Servers (i.e. Windows 2000 Server) (refer to:
If you were trying to install one of those two versions, then you didn't install SQL Server, you only installed the Client Tools.
