Does Microsoft Fax make noises when it's working

Hi
I'm using a computer at a friend's house. I need to fax some documents from this computer using Microsoft Fax. I tried yesterday; it seemed to work, but I didn't hear any dialing or beeping. Does MSFax really work that fast?
