Does does one replace an AD + DNS Server?

We have two DNS servers. One of them, also running AD, has gone down a couple of times for no apparent reason. This server is giving me all the tell signs of a dying unit:

(1) Backup Exec does not back up because of corrupt data
(2) It goes down - powers off/on
(3) It does not boot - fails to auto-detect drives
(4) I have to reset HD cables on drives and controller card
(5) I get lots of events logged which point to problems with my DNS

I think the time has come for me to get rid of this unit and put a 2nd in its place. I have never configured an AD nor a DNS server. Given my lack of experience, I wonder "how is this done?".

I have and can install the server. In fact, I have other servers (WEB Server) which I figure I could use for this (provided that I can keep my Apache Server running - Rather not use IIS - running PHP and MySQL).

Can some one please point me or provide guidance on how can I get this done?

Thank you all in advance!
