I have a customer with a Nortel system that relies heavily on their Voice Call feature. They are interested in an IP Office and want to know if Dial Direct will work across the SCN. Basically, in Short Codes, I use 7XXX, Dial Direct, N. So dialing 7221, would call extension 221 and 221 would answer on speaker so that the parties could have immediate two way conversation.

Yes you can do that but the PAGE function is part of the SCN so no shortcodes ar programming required.
It will only work towards system phones but it can be used from any phone.

A simple mind delivers great solutions

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "It only works towards system phones". I understand that PAGE is a function of SCN. The idea of PAGE is that it's one way only right? I want to ensure that they can "Dial Direct" and have instant two-way conversation across the SCN.

This should not be difficult, without testing i would do the following.

Set the short code on the local switch to dial over the SCN trunk
configure a matching short code on the remote switch to direct dial.

Personally I would find receiving this type of direct call to be rather rude & intrusive
which is probably why I have never been requested to configure it.
there is no accounting for some customers ;-)

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

I concur that it is rather intrusive and most of the systems I've implemented it on, they've requested that I remove it. However, this customer is demanding it. If it doesn't work, it's a dealbreaker for them. So has anybody else ever implemented this and any further input would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have but it was way back on 2.1 or 3.x releases. I agree that it is rude or obtrusive. I believe you can still do it though. Just setup a button for Automatic Intercom and then dial an extension either on the local system or the remote system when they are in a multi-site (SCN). I believe you could also do it with a short code also, but I know on the systems we had it implemented on, we used the IAuto button.

can't you use Dial Intercom feature on a button to do this? I think it works on a SCN.

That said, intrusive and creepy.

NM, it appears the dial intercom and automatic intercom are the same feature.
