I get an error when I run the security wizard. Does anyone kno where I can get some info on how to figure out what the problem is & solve the problem.

I have been given the task to secure our Database (located on our Windows NT server) and create user logons/passwords for our employees. I have downloaded all the information (Thanks to you all!) and have began testing the steps on an extra computer. So...I created a new workgroup, created a new Admin user, switch the default admin user to the Users Group, and clicked the little button to begin the Security Wizrd to Secure the Database.....and of course, I get an error. When I use the wizard, I do get the prompt to save the Secure HIS.mbd (by the way...one question I had is, do we leave it as Secure HIS.mdb, or do we change the name - leave it as HIS.mbd?) Then, it looks like it does a couple of things, but then I get an error message that says, "The Save operation failed." Then it displays a message that says "Unable to create a copy of c:\.....\HIS.mdb" Then it exits out of the wizard. When I glanced back at my folder (where I have saved the db & secure db), the Secure HIS.mbd has an open *.ldb file . PLEASE ANYONE, is there a way to find out why it failed, possible reasons, etc.???? "Try everything at least once."

I've not had the same experience but recently when trying to create an MDE I got the same error. The problem was undeclared variables in one of my modules. Try to compile the modules before using the Security Wizard. Don't know if it will help but it's worth trying. Terry L. Broadbent

I'm willing to try anything..I need to get this to work. How can I compile the modules? "Try everything at least once."

Open a module in design view. Select Debug on the menu. You should seee a line that says Compile dbname. Select that.

You may need to add Option Explicit to the beginning of modules if it isn't already there. That forces you to declare all variables used. Terry L. Broadbent

You're wonderful...and I finally got it to compile with no errors....but the Security Wizard still fails. I tried to do the make .MDE file and it also gives me an error that states that the record can't be read...do you know what that means???? "Try everything at least once."

I'm having a problem with one of my wizards failing also. However I suspect it's because of the Nimda virus that infected my machine. It looks like I'm going to have to do a reinstall/repair of Access 2000.

Have you tried repairing the database before running the security wizard? Terry L. Broadbent

I have ran the Repair database and it works just fine. I tried to do the Make .MDE file but it also fails (just wanted to see what it would do). I just don't know what to do. Do I have to secure the database before creating groups and users, or can I just go ahead and create the groups and users (since I do have that option under the Tools tab)? "Try everything at least once."

I have been playing around with Security as well lately. I was trying to create an MDE file as well. I couldn't get mine to run either. I finally ended up using the Performance Analyzer in Access and it pointed out a number of errors I hadn't realized were in my code. Once I fixed these I was able to create an MDE file. Maybe this will work for you.
