Oldnewbie,

When a site can handle PHP does it mean it can handle HTML and SWF too?

Is PHP new!

Why do most sites not handle PHP? Is there something bad about it?

Thanks

All hosts will handle HTML and swf files.

The reason not all sites handle things like PHP or ASP is often a matter of technology and economics. ASP is designed to run on NT type servers, PHP runs on UNIX servers (in fact packages exist that allow both languages to run on either server but it serves as a good rule of thumb). ASP is developed and owned by Microsoft with a price attached, PHP is an open source project and is (more or less) free. Both are powerful, and neither are "bad".

Most ISPs will run one or the other of these languages depending on which servers they use for hosting but you will often have to pay extra for a "business hosting" package.

PHP is not particularly new (it's reached v4) but then nothing on the web is particularly old ;-)
